Essay on Biography of Karl Marx - 1220 Words

Biography of Karl Marx Only in the course of the world’s history can a person born over a hundred years ago be as famous today as they were back then. Karl Marx is one person that fits this category. He paved the way for people of the same political background as his own. Marx’s ideas were unique and started uproar all over Europe. Marx helped write the Communist Manifesto one of the most important pieces of literature on Communism ever written. Marx’s dad sent him to the University of Berlin for four years. While in Berlin he traded in his views of Romanticism to views of the Hegelianism, which ruled Berlin at this point in history. When Marx’s college career was cut short by the opposition of the Prussian Government he moved to journalism. Marx became the editor of the Rheinische Zeitung a liberal newspaper in Cologne, Germany in 1842. His views on economic questions made the Prussian Government uncomfortable and they closed the paper. This is where Marx first got his ideas of how classes make life harsh for certain people and the only way to fix this is to eliminate classes all together. After that Marx moved to France, where in a few months he became a communist. He developed his ideas in his writings, which he titled Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts. It was in Paris that Marx met his partner for life Friedrich Engel’s. Both of them moved to Brussels, and visited Engel’s family in England from time to time. During his time here he wrote The German Ideology for which he had studied history intensely to come up with a materialistic view of history. In the German Ideology Marx said, â€Å"The nature of individuals depends on the material conditions determining their production.†. Media The Big Six - 1973 Words

Society today receives almost all of its information from the media. Since the media is mostly owned by just a few companies, views and ideas can be shaped by what one sees on the internet, television, and in newspapers. Because of the monopolizations from those few corporations that own what is viewed and read, it becomes fairly easy for the general public to instantly believe what is seen just because â€Å"the newsman said so.† Mass media not only has a huge and dangerous impact on the way society views politics and members of society, but also how media can affect the youth. â€Å"Media has been around in America since 1690, when the first newspaper in the United States, Publick Occurrences, Both Foreign and Domestick, was published†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦show more content†¦During an entire seventy-two hour period, remarks about Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, was not mentioned; although, somehow NBC found precious time to interview Michelle Obama on fashion and her fir st date with the current President of the United States† (NBC ObamaCare Coverage). Healthcare is an issue in this country that affects each individual in this country, so it would seem logical to report the progress of one of the most controversial and imperative laws to pass in recent memory. â€Å"Another perfect example of media avoiding the hard hitting stories and filling their broadcasting time with meaningless fluff in an effort for their favorite political figures to not look unsatisfactory in the eyes of the general public is when CNN decided to blow off coverage on the Benghazi hearings. The Benghazi attack was an awful moment for America as we lost four citizens on Libyan soil on September 11, 2012. Apparently four dead Americans, in a time where al Qaeda is allegedly not a threat to national security, is no match to the Jodi Arias trial and kidnappings in the Cleveland area. Life in Prison Free Essays

Prison life in most society is not considered a life worth mentioning. When a person decides to break the law and take up a life of crime, he or she should be aware of certain circumstances that lie ahead. When individuals break the law in our society, the pathway to a life in jail or prison is almost certain. We will write a custom essay sample on Life in Prison or any similar topic only for you Order Now Life simple freedom that most of society enjoys are limited in prison, and in some case none existence. Told where to go, how to act, when to speak, when to rise for the day or when to sleep can be torture. While enduring this he or she is confined in a small cell surrounded by the worst criminals society has to offer can make what life one has left a living nightmare (Heydoorn, 2008). In this paper, I will discuss my personal perspective that I have on Life in Prison. I will also discuss the policies that I would enforce, inmates need for respect, change in correctional policies that I would implement, and my beliefs on why people become criminals. After reading various topics on prison life during this course of study, along with my personal experience as a law enforcement officer, my perspective and understanding of prison life has not change. The main purpose of jail and prison has not change since the early days of our society. Prisons in our society are to house those citizens, which have committed crimes, like murder, rape, arson, and burglary. These citizens are held until their day in court, their trail has been set, and punishment has been rendered. Our ancestors intended purpose of jails and prisons were used as a form of punishment against the offender, a deterrent against the offender from committing crimes, removing dangerous criminals from our society and rehabilitation of less violent criminals. The system I think is ineffective so my understanding is that the system works. However, I am not supportive of the harsh conditions that some inmates will experience while incarcerated. The subculture of gang life and having to choose between living prison life safe or a victim of prison life is a difficult choice (Latessa, 2004). Some policies that I would make to aid the adjustment of prisoners to prison life are first address the subculture mentality that all inmates will experience. This unwritten inmate code, which is nothing more than a certain rules, and belief that used to bind inmates together. Prison life within this culture sees prison as nothing more than a training ground for gladiators. Here is where the strong will survive and flourish in this culture or weak shall become victims. This one area seldom addressed in the majority of prisons. In some cases, prisons officials allow this system to operate for fear of staff safety and gang retaliation. If this were the first order of attack, an inmate might have the chance at rehabilitation and reeducating themselves for reentry back to society (De Viggiani, 2006). In prison life for an inmate, his or her very existence is based on respect, hope, and safety that he or she will survive their sentence. If respect is given to an inmate as, a human being than respect should be rendered in return. Respect can be the difference between a prison riots or safe staff. Giving an inmate hope can change an individual whole outlook on prison life. Though hope an inmate can, one acquires his or her GED, learn a trade, kick drug addiction, and one-day walk out a free man. Other changes in policy that I would suggest in both state and federal prison would first start with the correctional management staff ideology. In almost every state in the United States prison system operates with the idea that if a plan worked good one day why change it the next. In other words if the system is not broken why fix it. The correctional system is like any other field in our society reluctant to change even when it is long overdue. The hearts and minds of correctional professionals, is a start in the right direction. In the last 100 years, there has been very little difference in how our prisons are operated this needs to change. Just because it was successful in 1950 does not mean it is for 2011. During this course of study, I do not think that there is no definite reason people become criminals. It is hard for me to think that individuals are merely born criminals and its is beyond that person control to do otherwise. I think that some people just take up criminal activity because the lifestyle and danger of being caught appeals to their behavior. Others might do strictly for financial gains that might override any rational thought. Some because of their environment see it as easy ticket out of poverty in which he or she grew up. The list could go on with no simple answer. However, I am confident that if the majority of our society were taught at an early age that criminal behavior is a no win scenario that will only led them to a life in prison. How to cite Life in Prison, Essays Life in Prison Free Essays Life in prison is difficult to understand for those who have not experienced this kind of life. This paper will discuss the how my understanding of prison life has changed since reading the assigned materials. Change in Understanding of Prison Life My understanding of prison life since reading the course’s assigned readings and ERR articles has changed, to the extent that I originally viewed some prisons to be more of a vacation spot for some criminals as opposed to being a place that criminals are sent to serve harsh, sentence with the fear of facing other dangerous criminals. We will write a custom essay sample on Life in Prison or any similar topic only for you Order Now I also believed that prisoners did not deserve any sort of rights under the Constitution, because of the crimes they committed, but after reading the material I no longer believe this. Most do not realize the multitude of issues that inmates have to deal with on a daily basis while just trying to survive his or her time in prison. My view remains that criminals who have been convicted of committing a crime and sent to prison should be there. Inmates even though locked up still have to go through the experience of racism in prison this racism comes from both other inmates and prison staff. An obvious risk that inmates must face is the risk of having to participate in sexual acts that can include rape. I could not imagine anything worse than being sexually assaulted and I could never imagine the feeling that must go with being sexually assaulted by someone that is the same sex as me. All criminals deserved to be punished but no one deserves to be assaulted like this. Gangs are another dangerous issue that inmates must deal with on a daily basis. I could not begin to fathom the idea of facing gang violence while in prison, with the constant threat of being attacked or killed because I would chose not a part of the gangs. In regards to drug addictions, it has to be extremely difficult to suffer through withdrawals while in prison. I would imagine that this can make an inmate begin to believe he or she is crazy and begin locked in a cell has to make that inmate feel even worse. With most prisons lacking substance abuse programs and treatment this too has to make the situation worse. Policies One Would Enforce One of the biggest issues in the state and federal prison systems is overcrowding. To address the all-important issue of overcrowding, I would enforce a policy that would prevent the overcrowding of prisons by ensuring that prison staff strictly adhered to a maximum occupancy guideline. This policy would ask that not only prison staff but courts all follow the guidelines that prisoners must be transferred to other prisons if one has reached it occupancy level even if this meant to enter other jurisdictions. Another policy that I would enforce is the need for substance abuse programs that will assist with treatment of addictions and mental health services for those with mental illnesses. As of today there are few prisons that offer these services to inmates. The new policy will address this issue, make it possible for inmates to receive medical treatment and substance abuse treatment. Finally, I would implement a policy to address the violence within the prison system. This policy would implement severe punishment for those involved in violent activities. Depending upon the seriousness of the violence, the offending inmate could face solitary confinement and possibly place in a maximum security ward of the prison. How Inmate’s Needs Contribute to Correctional Policy The needs of inmates greatly contribute to correctional policy. Even with the consideration of the crime that was committed, prison inmates are people and must still be treated fairly and equally. Prison inmates still deserve respect, provided with a sense of hope, should be afforded proper medical treatment, and even though they are criminals inmates deserve to be kept safe from harm. It is the responsibility of the prison staff to be sure that the inmate receives everything that he or she would expect for themselves if the roles were reversed. Changes in Correctional Policy An important change in correctional policy that I would suggest to be implemented in the correctional facilities is regarding medical and drug treatment. Along with this policy I would ask that all inmates receive a full medical examination upon commitment to the prison, this exam would also test for sexually transmitted diseases this exam would ensure the health of inmates as well as provide prison staff with the knowledge of who needs medication. Many people suffer from diseases that require strict medical treatment such as diabetes and inmates often suffer from the same diseases as free people. I would implement urine screening to make the staff aware of any possible drug addictions of the inmate, and offer that inmate drug treatment if needed. Why People Become Criminals I believe that people become criminals for many reasons. Some people become criminals a need to feed themselves or family members, others become criminals for the monetary gain that can be received from his or her criminal activities. Some even become criminals just to inflict pain upon others. There are many other reasons why people chose to become criminals. Money, need and hate are the usual causes for people’s criminal activities. How to cite Life in Prison, Essay examples

Evaluation and Reflection Transaction Cost Economics

Question: Discuss about the Evaluation and Reflection for Transaction Cost Economics. Answer: Introduction The following assignment is based on the personal reflection of the group work done during this course, along with evaluating my personal development. Our group of four members conducted a range of assignments that spanned the majority of the duration of the course. These assignments were based around the telecommunication company PTG. The project was carried out to analyze the locations and market to render the services in order to successful expansion of IT business. As a member of the team, I was responsible to research the economic conditions of the IT sector within and across the country Australia. Other than that, I was also responsible to assist the group in planning the most feasible outsourcing plan with respect to the best organization, maximizing revenue and profitability Discussion Our group members started with finding five organizations that were in need of advanced and upgraded technological software within and across Australian territory. The team followed the project by identifying the benefits and opportunities on the implication of the companys software services to those five organizations (Ravindran et al. 2015). The team also identified the risks and threats with respect to the services to be provided by our company and the competitors in the information technology industry. The team planned the price structure of providing the services and measured the profitability for outsourcing the services. The goal of my consulting team of PTG telecommunication was to prepare a feasible plan and selected three companies within Australia and two companies outside the country. In the process of one-week time, the group was able to achieve its target and presented the best plan that revealed significant opportunities and threats with an approximate 15% profit on undertaking the proposed outsourcing project. We prepared a team action plan and team charter that assist in processing the project work more effectively and efficiently. I participated in four out of five activities that involved research, planning and drafting several information regarding the research and execution. I analyzed the areas of strength and the areas to develop my skills and competence along with the opportunities and threats of performance in a team. Ensure all the tasks are completed on deadline Being able to apply learned subject content to work place situations Work effectively with group members throughout the project Being able to apply business principles, overviews, discipline issues and knowledge to a real-world Areas of Strength Being involved with the telecommunication company PTG since six months, I have acquired immense knowledge in the sector of information technology with respect to several technological software applications. Being a member of the project team, I developed the knowledge of current economic conditions and market scenario within and outside Australia while researching about the organizations. Apart from that, while analyzing the benefits of outsourcing the technological services, I could enhance the different business functions that are important to render best services and generate maximize profitability. As a member of the group, I gained confidence to cope up with the working efficiency of other team members with respect to the speed, technology of research and presentation of ideas. I learnt to be composed and calm while working in a team of four members because it is difficult to maintain the work balance and time management in a group activity. I learnt that there should be proper communication between the members so that there is effective outcome of the team project. The most essential factor of a sound group activity is management of time and well co-ordination among the members (Jaber et al. 2015). I learnt that I have the ability to perform my activities within the limited time and with better quality. Measures to be adapted to track the work progress Analyzing and measuring the progress of project is essential since it directly relates to the success or failure of the assignment project. Performance of the work should be evaluated as per the projects requirement and actual work done. Following are the steps necessary to adapt for measuring the work progress: Documenting the learning objectives Setting of effective principles and standards Segregation and structure of the work to be undertaken Preparing a time schedule for completion of each section of the project Evaluating the actual performance with the target standards Identification of the deviation and reasons thereof Making amendments Areas to develop Individual performance and group performance are two different aspects one can identify the strengths and weakness as their capability (Lacity and Khan 2016). I found the same for me. Working within a team with three fellow members, I realized the areas where I need to develop my efficiency and competence. As the most important factor of successful performance in a team is management of time and communication to co-ordinate among the members. I need to develop my skills of communication with the team members to present the work more effectively. Further, I learnt that I have to be more patient and manage research study and executing the data and information. It is also important to have a planned structure of the different activities to balance the work with other members. Hence, I have to enhance my quality on planning a proper and effective structure to save time and better presentation with maximum information. It is very common in any group activity to have certain conflicts, which should be handled carefully and patiently. It is one of the essential criteria of group activity I have to progress for better results and outcomes. Opportunities The group activity brought certain opportunities for me that are beneficial for the development of career. The ability to perform with team members within the allocated time and with the best quality is a biggest challenge of a group activity. I exhibit to my reporting manager the ability of performance with a balance between the research study and execution of the activities. This project activity gave me an opportunity to lead a particular activity for identification of benefits of outsourcing the information technology services. Conducting a survey for the organizations that need updated software services was also a challenging work for me. It was a great learning experience for me on management of time, co-ordination between members, relevance of specific information and execution of the same in final presentation. Skills, Knowledge and Experience required Since the company requires knowledgeable and experienced employees and team members to proceed with the objectives of business operations.
